Petainen, Peter (MDOT)March 1, 2016 — Peter M. Petainen has been appointed as the new general manager at the International Bridge Administration (IBA) in Sault Ste. Marie by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). He is succeeding Phil Becker, who retired in January after serving as IBA manager since 2001.

Petainen, 44, who has been guiding the International Bridge’s day-to-day finance and long-term business goals as the IBA’s chief financial officer for the past 14 years, began his new position on Feb. 28.

“In his new role, Peter is responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of the bridge,” MDOT Chief Administrative Officer Laura Mester said. “He’ll also continue to foster the bridge’s already good community relations and customer service, as well as maintain the strong partnerships with the border crossing agencies on the U.S. and Canadian sides.” (more…)

FBCL announces the opening of the new entrance onto the bridge plaza from Huron Street

Marie International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie. Today at 1:30 PM, the southbound traffic lane onto the bridge from Huron Street was turned over to the International Bridge Administration (IBA), which will now maintain the new entrance and roadway.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be replacing two large culverts on I-75 approximately 2.5 miles south of the M-28/I-75 intersection. The culverts, installed in the 1960s, have reached the end of their service life. (more…)
