Peregrine falcon nest boxes have been installed on the International Bridge  since 2010 on both the U.S. and Canadian arches. Peregrines have been active at the International Bridge since 1999. The nest boxes are an ongoing commitment by the IBA to provide our falcons a habitat, as they like to nest on tall buildings, smokestacks and bridges. The peregrine falcon is listed as an endangered species in Michigan, protected by state law.

Advisory: International Bridge closing to vehicle traffic during foot races Sept. 29

September 17, 2018 — The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic during the Sault International Festival of Races on Saturday, Sept. 29. The bridge will close to vehicle traffic at 6:45 a.m. and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. or as soon as the last runner clears the bridge, whichever is earlier.

A half marathon and bridge run both cross the bridge as part of their courses. This is the final planned public bridge event in 2018 that will require a temporary bridge closure.

In honor of the 350th anniversary of Sault Ste. Marie, all festival racers will receive special commemorative medals. More information on the Festival of Races can be found at
