vlcsnap-2015-06-05-09h30m06s114Fire equipment and personnel from the sister cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, are tentatively scheduled to be on the bridge deck Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4. They will be working with International Bridge staff to test a water piping system designed to respond to a bridge fire. (more…)

Helen Gillespie Elected to International Bridge Board; Phil Becker Recognized for Service

Gillespie Elected to Chair International Bridge Board for Remainder of 2015

May 26, 2015 — Helen Gillespie of Vancouver, British Columbia, was elected to replace the late James McIntyre as the 2015 chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority (SSMBA) board of directors, the bi-national body that supervises operations of the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge. Her election took place at the board’s regular meeting May 21.

McIntyre, a longtime Canadian SSMBA board member, died in February as the result of an accident. Gillespie was vice chair of SSMBA in 2010 and chair of SSMBA in 2011. (more…)

International Bridge Customers Invited to Participate in Traffic Study

May 8, 2015 – Where are you going? Where are you coming from? Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge customers will be asked to answer those kinds of travel questions during an upcoming traffic study.

On May 12 and 13, bridge customers will have an opportunity to participate in a brief survey about their travel habits. Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) staff will be at the International Bridge toll plaza inviting both northbound and southbound drivers to pull their vehicles off to the side to answer six questions regard the origin, destination and purpose of their trip.
