New Toll Lanes, New Prox Card Software

Aug. 7, 2015 — New toll lanes, featuring new software, improved convenience for bridge customers, and new frequent user discount toll rates, are set to open Monday night at the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge.

Contractors and International Bridge Administration (IBA) staff will begin opening the new toll lanes at 10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, and expect to have two southbound and two northbound lanes available by Tuesday morning, Aug. 11. Toll traffic should not be impacted as the new lanes come online.

IBA officials expect all three permanent northbound lanes and two permanent southbound lanes to be fully functional by Wednesday, Aug. 12. The remaining two permanent southbound lanes are slated to go online in late September after the demolition of the old IBA administration building. Canopy Construction starts Tuesday Night, May 19, 2015

Canopy Construction to Have Minor Traffic Impact at Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge

May 15, 2015 — Customers can expect intermittent nighttime lane closures from May 19 to 21 during the next phase of the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge toll plaza reconstruction project.

Motorists should expect brief periods of all toll traffic being stopped in order to allow placement of six massive steel columns to support the toll canopy roof structure being constructed as part of the $8.9 million (USD) project. The intermittent toll lane closures are scheduled to start each night at about 11 p.m. beginning Tuesday, May 19, and be complete before 6 a.m. each day. International Bridge Customers Invited to Participate in Traffic Study

May 8, 2015 – Where are you going? Where are you coming from? Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge customers will be asked to answer those kinds of travel questions during an upcoming traffic study.

On May 12 and 13, bridge customers will have an opportunity to participate in a brief survey about their travel habits. Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) staff will be at the International Bridge toll plaza inviting both northbound and southbound drivers to pull their vehicles off to the side to answer six questions regard the origin, destination and purpose of their trip.
