The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be replacing two large culverts on I-75 approximately 2.5 miles south of the M-28/I-75 intersection. The culverts, installed in the 1960s, have reached the end of their service life. (more…)

International Bridge Customers Invited to Participate in Traffic Study

May 8, 2015 – Where are you going? Where are you coming from? Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge customers will be asked to answer those kinds of travel questions during an upcoming traffic study.

On May 12 and 13, bridge customers will have an opportunity to participate in a brief survey about their travel habits. Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) staff will be at the International Bridge toll plaza inviting both northbound and southbound drivers to pull their vehicles off to the side to answer six questions regard the origin, destination and purpose of their trip. International Bridge Ready for Underwater Pier Inspection

April 20, 2015 — The Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge will get a regular checkup when underwater bridge pier inspection starts next week.

The work involves inspecting the International Bridge’s piers below the water line in the St. Mary’s River. The inspection will be performed by qualified divers and engineers using scuba gear and digital recording devices to examine and record the condition of the piers in areas not visible above the water line.

The inspection – expected to cost $51,000 – is mandated by the Federal National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and must be performed every five years. (more…)

New Smartphone App, New Canadian Currency Toll

March 26, 2015 — With the U.S. dollar’s continuing strength, International Bridge customers paying with Canadian currency will see the toll rate increased, while the U.S. rates remain unchanged. Bridge customers will have added convenience for viewing wait times and toll rates with an app for mobile devices.

The app is available for iPhone and Android operating systems, and is a free download from the iTunes (iTunes) and Google Play (Google Play) app stores.
