Marie, Ontario, are tentatively scheduled to be on the bridge deck Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4. They will be working with International Bridge staff to test a water piping system designed to respond to a bridge fire. (more…)

Helen Gillespie Elected to International Bridge Board; Phil Becker Recognized for Service

Gillespie Elected to Chair International Bridge Board for Remainder of 2015

May 26, 2015 — Helen Gillespie of Vancouver, British Columbia, was elected to replace the late James McIntyre as the 2015 chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority (SSMBA) board of directors, the bi-national body that supervises operations of the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge. Her election took place at the board’s regular meeting May 21.

McIntyre, a longtime Canadian SSMBA board member, died in February as the result of an accident. Gillespie was vice chair of SSMBA in 2010 and chair of SSMBA in 2011. (more…)

Canopy Construction starts Tuesday Night, May 19, 2015

Canopy Construction to Have Minor Traffic Impact at Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge

May 15, 2015 — Customers can expect intermittent nighttime lane closures from May 19 to 21 during the next phase of the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge toll plaza reconstruction project.

Motorists should expect brief periods of all toll traffic being stopped in order to allow placement of six massive steel columns to support the toll canopy roof structure being constructed as part of the $8.9 million (USD) project. The intermittent toll lane closures are scheduled to start each night at about 11 p.m. beginning Tuesday, May 19, and be complete before 6 a.m. each day. The toll lane closures are not expected to exceed 45 minutes. (more…)
