Canadian toll adjustments at International Bridge based on currency exchange rates

Fast facts:
– The International Bridge Authority (IBA) in Sault Ste. Marie, is adjusting Canadian fares at the bridge.
– Starting April 1, the passenger vehicle rate for Canadian currency will change from $4.40 to $4.70.
– Customers making just one round trip across the bridge each week can qualify for a 20 percent commuter discount.

March 16, 2016 — While the U.S. fare will remain unchanged, International Bridge customers paying Canadian currency will see the toll rate adjusted due to the current value of the Canadian dollar. The changes, effective Friday, April 1, are the result of the currency exchange review conducted by bridge officials twice each year. (more…)

Petainen named General Manager of International Bridge Administration

Peter M. Petainen has been named the new manager of the International Bridge Authority (IBA) in Sault Ste. Marie.
Petainen, 44, who has been the IBA’s chief financial officer for the past 14 years, began his new position on Feb. 28.
He becomes the first Canadian to hold the post.

March 1, 2016 — Peter M. Petainen has been appointed as the new general manager at the International Bridge Administration (IBA) in Sault Ste. Marie by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). He is succeeding Phil Becker, who retired in January after serving as IBA manager since 2001.

Petainen, 44, who has been guiding the International Bridge’s day-to-day finance and long-term business goals as the IBA’s chief financial officer for the past 14 years, began his new position on Feb. 28.

“In his new role, Peter is responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of the bridge,” MDOT Chief Administrative Officer Laura Mester said. “He’ll also continue to foster the bridge’s already good community relations and customer service, as well as maintain the strong partnerships with the border crossing agencies on the U.S. and Canadian sides.” (more…)

Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority honors former chairman James McIntyre

– The board received updates on two planned bridge maintenance projects.

February 11, 2016 — The Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority (SSMBA) board has named the board room at the new International Bridge administration building in honor of the late James L. McIntyre.

The bi-national body, which supervises operations of the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge, adopted a resolution naming the board room after McIntyre and made plans to unveil a commemorative plaque in the room at its May meeting. (more…)

FBCL announces the opening of the new entrance onto the bridge plaza from Huron Street

OTTAWA, November 23, 2015 – The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL) announces the opening of the new southbound access to the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie. Today at 1:30 PM, the southbound traffic lane onto the bridge from Huron Street was turned over to the International Bridge Administration (IBA), which will now maintain the new entrance and roadway.
