International Bridge Plaza work to be completed

October 7, 2016 — A project to replace concrete showing premature signs of wear, as well as completion of other work on the International Bridge U.S. toll plaza, will begin Monday.

Beginning Monday at noon, two of the four northbound toll lanes will be closed while concrete is removed from one of the lanes. After concrete has been re-poured, one of the two closed lanes will reopen. The repaired lane will remain closed for up to four weeks while the concrete fully cures during the cooler fall temperatures. (more…)

Stronger Canadian dollar results in lower Canadian currency tolls at International Bridge

September 14, 2016 — International Bridge customers paying with Canadian currency at toll booths will see some savings as Canadian currency rates decrease due to the relative strength of the Canadian dollar. The changes are the result of the currency equity review conducted by bridge officials twice each year.

Starting Saturday, Oct. 1, the passenger vehicle rate for customers paying with Canadian currency will be reduced from $4.70 to $4.50. Commercial vehicles rates will decrease from $6.10 per axle to $5.85 per axle.

“All our Canadian currency toll rates will be adjusted,” said Peter Petainen, International Bridge Administration (IBA) general manager. “This is part of our required, semi-annual currency review. (more…)

Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority Eyes Changes to Capital Projects

August 19, 2016 — Capital projects at the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge are being rescheduled in an effort take advantage of new technology and to save money.

The Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority (SSMBA) board, the bi-national body supervising operations of the International Bridge, had its quarterly meeting Thursday. The board received updates on bridge maintenance projects, which had been scheduled to begin this year. (more…)
