As administrators for the Facebook page “Yooper Pasty,” we notice many people loving our photos of the Mighty Mac, south of Sault Ste. Marie. However, there are other beautiful bridges throughout the Upper Peninsula, bridges like the Houghton–Hancock Lift Bridge, and of course, the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie.
It is a welcoming sight to drive Interstate 75 to its northern terminus, round the last bend by the I-500 Snowmobile Track, and see the Twin Saults, with a gracefully arched bridge connecting them!
On both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the St. Mary’s River, the cities bustle with activity, especially on and around the International Bridge. What a symbol of friendship, cooperation, and peace between two neighboring countries. We congratulate the International Bridge Administration on the 50th anniversary of this important structure, and look forward to many safe and assured passages in the decades to come!
